Frequently asked questions

Northeast Women’s Psychiatry is fully virtual and providers currently see patients located in Massachusetts.

Integrative psychiatry looks at mental health through a whole-body lens, combining traditional psychiatric care with an understanding of hormones, sleep, metabolism, nutrition, and stress physiology. Treatment considers how these systems interact and may include medication, hormonal support, lifestyle strategies, and coordination with other wellness providers to help women feel better on every level.

PMDD can improve with SSRIs, hormones, supplements/neutraceuticals, and lifestyle/metabolic support. Treatment is personalized to you: your cycles, your history, and medications you've already tried. Complex decision making can help us to find the right treatment approach for you.

Yes, including late-diagnosed ADHD, hormone or perimenopause-related worsening, executive dysfunction, and emotional dysregulation in high-achievers.  ADHD presents differently in high functioning women.  Our practice utilizes a combination of quantitative and qualitative assessments to discern whether ADHD plays a role.

The practice is aimed at patients who wish to make behavioral changes in their lives, whether or not traditional psychiatric medications are prescribed. While we aim to support as many women as possible, certain issues are better suited for other specialists. Conditions we don’t currently work with include psychosis and schizophrenia, as well as substance use. We also do not provide disability evaluations or work with forensic cases.

The quality of the care and attention we provide outweighs the cost. Insurance dictates how long appointments can be and how frequently patients can be seen, which impacts the quality of care. Our patients come first. Insurance places limitations on the types of services we can provide. By taking insurance companies out of the equation, we can focus on personalized care tailored to your unique needs. Relationships matter when it comes to mental health. Our goal is to partner with you and build a strong provider-patient relationship so that you can achieve lasting results. Insurance companies focus on disease care instead of lasting wellness.

We do not accept Medicare, Medicaid, or Tricare. You may NOT file a claim with any of these government health plans, as Danielle Cogliano, PMHNP-BC has opted out of these plans.

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we request at least 48 hours advance notice of cancellation prior to your appointment time. We do charge a fee equal to the full amount of the session time for missed appointments, late reschedules, and late cancellations. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time.

We are an outpatient private practice and do not provide urgent care or emergency services. If you are in immediate crisis, contact emergency services (911), the suicide and crisis lifeline (988), a hospital emergency room, or a crisis intervention service.

Some of our patients see their psychiatric provider weekly when first initiating medications or other treatment approaches. Others come every other week, up to every three months. If you are taking prescription medications, we require a follow-up visit every three months to continue your prescription.

Patients can send a message through our secure online patient portal. Your provider will make every effort to return your message within 48 business hours, with the exception of weekends and holidays. Email/portal communication is for administrative and non-urgent medication questions only. Your provider will not manage requests for medication changes via the portal. If you need to discuss a clinical matter, please make an appointment to discuss it in a clinical session, as this is the most secure way to communicate.

Refill requests must come directly from patients (i.e. requests from pharmacies will NOT be answered). Medications will be refilled during normal business hours and only after a follow-up appointment is scheduled. Refill requests on weekends will be filled the following Monday or non-holiday business day. Please note that all patients being prescribed medications are required to attend follow-up appointments at least every 3 months in order to ensure that prescribed medications remain safe and appropriate. If a required follow-up visit is overdue, we may pause medication refills until the patient is seen. This is a standard safety practice and helps us provide the highest level of care to patients.
